The need for all hands to be on deck in mitigating the effects of gender based violence in Nigeria and to encourage survivors and caregivers to report cases of GBV as it is the foundation for preventive measures took center stage at the recently concluded 4th National Gender Based Violence Conference organized by the Association Against Child Sexual and Gender Based Violence.
Ehisumwen Eriamiantoe of the Centre for Gender Studies, UNIBEN reports that the Director, Center for Gender Studies, University of Benin, Prof. Adefunke T. Adekunle led a plenary session on Impact Assessment of Sexual Gender Based Violence Response in Nigeria.
In line with the objectives of the Centre for Gender Studies, UNIBEN on empowerment and capacity building of staff and students, Prof. Adekunle sponsored four members of staff of the Centre to the conference. The staff in attendance were, Mr. Patrick Eganbor, Mr Anthony Emovon, Mrs. Ehisumwen Eriamiantoe and Mrs. Ifueko Ewere-Aguebor.
The Deputy Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Maria Omozele Edeko who was the chairperson at the conference reiterated her commitment and that of the Edo State government in addressing issues of gender based violence in the state as well as intervention measures that have been established through legal and policy frameworks as well as support services.
The conference which was held at the Sen. Daisy Danjuma Women Centre in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria attracted participants from the various states in Nigeria and had as its theme; Accelerating Technology and Inclusion: The Role of State and Non-state Actors.
